CarterVille Info 2004

This Year we have the honor of being designated the  HOST STATE for the Nationals.

This is the first year in history that Colorado has been asked to host.

This honor presented to Colorado  is  a testament of our commitment to Fiddling.

We will have many duties as host state that we will reverently perform :

 - Play at every opening of the nightly shows (Be in warm up room by 6:15 dressed respectivly) Saturday we Perform at 6:00 - be in warm up room at 5:45

- Perform at various community events around town (Watch for schedules)

      - The town of Weiser will provide us with a decorated Float in which we will ride in at the Parade

Recognition we will receive includes :  A write up in the contest program and acknowledgment in the Hall of Fame. Pictures are scheduled for Wednesday - watch schedule

Organization:             -  Performance duties will be posted in the warm up room on a dry erase board each day

                                - We will devide into groups to delegate community performance duties - these groups will include All fiddler's from Colorado.

                                - We will need a Colorado Flag and our Cotfa Banner for the float . I would also like to display our flag on stage at the nightly performances.

                                - Nightly performances should be loosely planned..... I think we should do one night as a kids night...we probably will do a glow bow thing.

I would like to have a "Colorado Pride" night in Carterville and invite everyone

from Colorado to Carterville for dinner.

I will post a schedule before Weiser and AT Weiser in Carterville.

Last year  we  shared in a truly special experience ...the camp was calm and inviting. We received much recognition and praise.                                                    We should feel proud of our conduct and our achievements. We made new friends and shared times with old friends.                                                                            We demonstrated support for each other as well as our Weiser friends. It is wonderful how we could all work together at camp                                                           and in performance to make our group visible as a positive entity at Weiser. I am so very proud and honored to have you as my friends!

Thank You!

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Families - PLEASE don't leave Weiser early. As the host state I expect that we will all support each other and be available to help with the duties that have been bestowed upon us. Please consider all the hard work that has always  been put into setting up and organizing Carterville.  The saturation that occurs after experiencing a full week of fiddling is often just what your child needs to reach the next level of understanding. Please consider this:  leaving shortly after your division is done, reflects poorly on our group.

Supply list for Weiser

Clothes...
Daytime it gets kinda hot but in the evenings it can get cold. There is a
in town which we usually use at least once while we are there. There is a public pool in town also and we usually have at least one water fight in camp so bring a swim suite.
STAGE CLOTHES: Nice Blue Jeans and a white Shirt (not a t shirt) For Each nights performance AND formal wear for Friday's performance Of the National Anthem. Black pants and White Shirt. We will be presenting ourselves as professionals who understand what an honor it is to perform at Weiser...If you don't have  stage clothes you will not be able to perform with us.
Also PLEASE Bring your RMFC shirt to help publicize our contest!

Must have's
*Your Fiddle (of course) - rosin, shoulder rest and extra strings
*Guitar if you have one and play it (also chord charts)
*A good tape recorder or mini DISC recorder - not a mini voice recorder as these tapes are useless for later use.
*Plenty of blank tapes/MD & Batteries - remember cheap tapes break and sound bad.
You should record at every opportunity, this is mostly why you came. At Jam's in the camp ground especially. If you do not know the person you are recording you should ask permission before punching the record button. This way they know and approve of the recording. this is just common courtesy. Don't expect to play at jams outside of our camp...you should listen. You will know when you are ready to join.
Recording The Championship div. and your age div.(all rounds) is required.
*Video recorder - If you have one Bring it. You will find video of your division and the Championship div. very helpful in the years to come.
*Flash Light - helpful when heading to the bathroom at night!
*Folding Chairs - if you are flying please send extra chairs with those who have room and are driving. We especially need stools and armless chairs for Jamming.
*Towels and other shower "stuff" - Since you will need to take your stuff with you to the shower's I have found it easier if I put it all in a bag to carry up to the showers. Often shower trips have to happen quickly so it is good to have it all together and ready to grab. There is power in the bathrooms for hair dryers and curling irons.

Space Blankets- you will need to protect your instruments from the heat!

*Beverages - we have found that pop disappears very quickly at Weiser so we should have a fair plan about how to keep the supply up. We will have large drink containers for lemonade etc...
*A Watch- most of the time we are on a tight schedule so make sure you know what time it is!
*Journal - If you attended last year bring your Weiser Journal. All students must hand in an essay at the end of Weiser... this should give a thorough account of what you learned and experienced at Weiser, at least one page.

Handy things to have

EVERYONE must bring chairs - those without arms are best for jamming. Please label these with your name.
Extra Heavy duty tent stakes - If you are tenting it you will need them.. we do get some wind gusts!
Bug spray,Sunscreen,Snacks,Pillows,sleeping bags extra blankets
Light weight Jacket,Sunglasses,Fingernail clippers
Squirt guns & spray bottles, bikes, frisbees hoola hoops and pogo sticks!
Stadium Seat pads(you will be sitting on hard bleachers for many hours)
Playing Cards,Metronome,Tuner
Small Ice chest (We have a large one for day to day food)
Trash bags,Water bottle

Money- things you will need it for
Camp Spot - $9-12 per night - to be paid in advance when you arrive at check in... state that you are in CarterVille
Food: We are having catered food for Tue - Thursday, leftovers on Friday.

Cost per day (Evening meal only) is $10 per person,$5 for kids under 12... There is a grocery store in town.

Recreation- there is a pool in town and a carnival

Ice - we will take turns buying ice as we need it.
Snacks-they sell Ice Cream bars and donuts at the main office. There is also concession stands.
FREE - workshops- check daily postings!
CD's - This is a MUST I usually reserve about $100 a year for recordings. If you want new versions of tunes for next year I will expect for you to build your own music library.
Souvenir's - Gotta have a Weiser T-shirt!
Private Shower Pass - optional (a public shower pass comes with the camp site)
Pictures - A professional photo is taken of each contestant as they finish on stage..they are usually
about $10 for an  8X10.
Guest Badges are $5 - this gets you in to all events except SATURDAY
Tickets for Saturday Evening Finals - $12.00 Bleacher, $14.00 reserved chair seats

Menu 2004

Letter From John & Stella

Greetings Everyone!

It's once again time to think about bellying up to the buffet and stuffing ourselves silly! Stella & I will once again be making the trip, and look forward to being with all of you again!

Upon reviewing last year's event, there are not a lot of changes we plan on making. We will arrive in camp Tuesday afternoon, and plan on making dinner for everyone Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday night. Menus for Tuesday through Thursday night are attached, and we will once again play Friday night by ear (hey! It's a Fiddle Jam, after all!) using what we have left and getting whatever else we need to make a great meal. Caitlyn, Stella & I will be leaving early Saturday morning as I have a big picnic to supervise in Denver Sunday afternoon. I'm sure Caitlyn & Stella will argue all the way home, fighting for the front seat and driving me nuts. Not really looking forward to that leg of the trip.....

The menus all have vegetarian options, and are more kid friendly than they may sound. I will also have vegetarian burgers and hot dogs available to appease those who need appeasing, so to speak. As long as you don't piss Stella off (trust me - not a good idea!) most special requests will be accommodated with a smile.

My costs have gone up a bit this year, thus so have yours. Adult meals are $12.00 each, Kids under 10 are $6.00 each. I will need all money in by June 161' in order to get my orders placed & shopping done. Checks or cash can be given to either myself or Denice.

Lastly, I will need a couple of folks to assist with transporting equipment, much like we did last year. If you would like to volunteer, or have any questions, concerns or requests I can be reached at (303) 916-7419 or emailed at Johnnyoh2004(ayahoo.com.

Thank you all! We look forward to helping make this year at Weiser a memorable week enjoyed by all!
